  • Difference Between the Gas Turbine and Steam Turbine:

The main differences between the Gas turbine and Steam turbine are, The Gas turbine does not depend on water supply but in the case of the Steam turbine, it completely depends on water supply.

Today we will study the Difference between the Gas turbine and Steam Turbine and at the end of the article, you can download a PDF of the whole article.

Let’s start,

Gas Turbine:

Air is taken from the atmosphere. The atmospheric air sends to the compressor. Compressor, compress that air here pressure and temperature increase and this compresses air sends to the combustion chamber where it is heated. So the hot air is sent to the turbine blade for rotating the blade.

Here the major portion of energy developed by the turbine is used to derive the compressor and the remaining amount used for useful work.

Steam Turbine:

Here the working fluid is water.

Difference Between the Gas Turbine and Steam Turbine:

Sl. NoGas TurbineSteam Turbine
1.A gas turbine does not depend on water supply. But whereasThe steam turbine depends on the water supply.
2.The space requirement for installation is less.In the steam turbine, The space requirement for installation is more.
3.The efficiency of a gas turbine is less comparatively steam turbine. The efficiency of a gas turbine is more comparatively steam turbine.
4.The working fluid is flue gases. Here the working fluid is steam gas.
5.In the gas turbine, the installation and running cost is less.In the gas turbine, the installation and running cost is more.
6.It executes complete Brayton cycle. The steam turbine executes only one step of the Rankine cycle.
7.A control with changing the load in a gas turbine is easy.A control with changing the load in a steam turbine is difficult.
8.It is a kind of quick-start system that means starting is easy does not takes much time. The steam turbine takes time for starting as a comparatively gas turbine.
9.The compressor and combustion chamber are some important components in this system.Steam boiler and accessories are some important components.
10.It develops less mass per KW.Steam turbine develops more mass per KW.
